Why breakfast matters more after 50.

As we age, muscle becomes less responsive to protein—a process called anabolic resistance. A small amount that once kept muscle building now barely registers. To switch muscle-building on, your body needs a bigger signal: about 30–40 g of protein per meal, spread across the day.

Breakfast is where most of us fall short. Toast, fruit, or coffee alone often lands under 10 g—leaving muscle and bone without the building blocks they need after an overnight fast. These recipes fix that, with quick, make-ahead, and grain-free options so there's something for every morning.
